Leicestershire’s Got Enterprising Business Talent is a project led by the University of Leicester and supported by Skills for Enterprise. The main objective of this project is to celebrate and raise awareness of local enterprise in the community by working with local organisations and further education centres. The project also aims to inspire potential entrepreneurs and increase confidence in the local economy during the current poor economic climate.
The pilot project last year, which was funded by LSEP and supported by Skills for Enterprise, highlighted that it had ‘encouraged local people and youngsters to think and behave in a more enterprising manner in all parts of their life’. Young people involved in the pilot project were ‘surprised by what they had achieved in only a day and found the event very motivating’. The project this year will involve local organisations and further education colleges/universities holding a series of awareness raising events and a Dragons Den style pitch to a selected panel. The project will then culminate with a final event where the winners from the local events compete for a final cash prize to help fund their business idea.
If you are a local community organisation in the Leicester/Leicestershire area and/or work specifically with young people, the unemployed, individuals suffering from a disability, women or individuals from a minority ethnic background and would like to host an event please conyact Bianco Devido on (0116) 2429482 or by e-mail bianca.devido@skillsforenterprise.co.uk.
The closing date for applications is Friday 8th January 2010.
